"In a clearing chosen by our dog, we built a house for others to breathe..."

ABAITA was designed with both people and pets in mind — not just allowed, but thoughtfully considered.

Know your four-legged companion is welcome — not as an exception, but by intention.

We built this place for them, too.

We’re dog people — always have been. But we weren’t always vacation people.

When Kobi and Vincenzo met, Choya was already 14 years old. She was quiet, wise, and deeply attached to her routines. Leaving her behind while travelling wasn’t easy — emotionally or practically. The few times it was necessary, it often ended in stress and tears.

So we changed how we travelled. We stayed closer to home, rented cars, and brought Choya along. But we quickly discovered how limiting that could be. The few places that allowed dogs were rarely inspiring. The rentals were often basic, neglected, or cheaply furnished — for sure their gardens weren't fully enclosed.
as if letting dogs in meant giving up on comfort or style.

When we first visited Hafendorf Zerpenschleuse, we came as guests — with Choya, of course. We loved the calm of the place, the balance of nature and simplicity. And when the chance came to own a home here, we knew we wanted to build something different.

Choya passed away at 20, before the house was finished. But so many details in ABAITA were designed with her in mind. In a way, this house is hers as much as ours.

ABAITA’s Pet Policy

We’re happy to welcome your furry companion to ABAITA. To ensure a comfortable and respectful experience for all guests — present and future — we ask that you kindly follow a few simple guidelines:

Feeding area: Pet bowls are stored under the stairs. Feel free to use them for feeding and return them clean before departure.

Furniture: For hygienic reasons, pets are not allowed on sofas, beds, or any decorative blankets, pillows, or duvets.

Clean-up: Please pick up after your pet in the garden. Some dog owners view it as natural or even beneficial to leave it, but it’s unpleasant to step in during your vacation, and not ideal if future guests want to lie in the grass or play outside. Please double-check the lawn before you leave.

Noise: Avoid excessive barking, especially during quiet hours.

Food safety: Do not leave pet food outdoors — it can attract wildlife or insects.

Supervision: Please don’t leave pets alone in the house or garden, even for a short time.

Pee spots & the garden: Dog urine can leave yellow or brown spots on the lawn. If possible, rinsing the area with water right after your dog pees helps minimise the damage.

Responsibility: Any damage caused during your stay is the owner’s responsibility.

If something goes wrong, let us know. We’ll find a solution together.
